Since September 1919, volunteers in the Scouts have been awarded the Wood Badge once they have completed their leadership training.

One of The Scouts' Adult Training Scheme principles is that our training equips volunteers with a wide range of transferable skills and areas of knowledge. As such, much of the training you undertake in Scouting can count towards an externally recognised award.

If you have gained your wood badge as a Section Leader, Manager or Supporter, you are eligible to join the ILM as an associate member. You can become a full member if you have other management qualifications or experience, which includes three years' further experience in your Scouting role. As a member, you are entitled to use the post-nominal letters AMInstLM or MInstLM.
