Brent District Scouts releases 2022 Census figures on diversity.
Brent District Scouts is proud to announce the release of its diversity statistics from its 2022 census. The data shows that our membership reflects the diverse population of Brent, one of the most ethnically diverse boroughs in London. The latest figures from the Greater London Authority (GLA) indicate that almost two-thirds of the population (64%) are from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups.
The census figures show that in Brent District Scouts youth membership, 57% are from BAME backgrounds, with the majority being Asian (36%). The data also shows that our membership is underrepresented in Black groups, with only 5% compared to 17% overall in the borough.

The GLA figures are for the total population of all ages, and only estimates 6% are mixed ethnicity; however, our youth membership is 13%, perhaps a reflection of the youth population and the locations in which we operate.
Regarding adult membership, 52% identify as White, 30% as Asian, 3% as Mixed, 3% as Black, and 12% as other.
"We are proud to see that our membership reflects the diverse population of Brent," said David Kitchen, District Commissioner. "We strive to make Scouting accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, culture, or faith. However, we recognize that there is still work to be done in terms of increasing representation among Black members and we are committed to addressing this."
The Brent District Scouts is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of its operations and will continue to work towards increasing representation and accessibility for all members.
